The expansion of the Catalonia International lgtib Film Festival

With the incorporation of Lleida and Girona, the FICGLB becomes the Catalonia International lgtib FilmFestival. Lleida is already the new seat of The Barcelona International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, for this reason the councilmen of Culture and Civil Rights have signed an agreement with the director of the event.

With this news published by the mass media a reality is confirmed. The present edition will be wider than ever, there will be more films, more days to enjoy the Festival and further participation of European producers and distributors.

As far as the international cooperation is concerned, the FICGLB will give support to the First Gay and Lesbian Film Festival of Uruguay, Llamale H, celebrated in Montevideo and the Third International Gay, Lesbian, Trans Film Festival, of Argentina, Diversa, in Buenos Aires, as well as the Cinema Diversidad, which takes place in Havana (Cuba), though has been recently postponed.

Out of 754 films submitted, 70 have been selected. Twenty countries are participating with short, medium and long feature films in the present festival. Some outstanding novelties are the presence of many young filmmakers who will introduce their works; the section dedicated to the documentaries will deal with controversial subjects. The Festival has invited Stephen Barris, director of communication of the ILGA, who will open a panel after the screening of a documentary on harassment and homophobia.

The Homage of this Festival is a recognition of the actress Ingrid Caven’s filmography, she has been the Muse of filmmakers such as Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Daniel Schmid. The FICGLB has the great honour to pay tribute and to thank her personally for having accepted to be the chairwoman of the International Jury, which awards the Diversitat prize.
